Team members have worked hard to incorporate the design of roadway improvements, water main improvements, and a new streetscape into one construction project.
The existing road surface on Main Street has asphalt over concrete. Both layers are in bad shape and need to be improved or replaced. City staff and Belleville residents opted to remove the entire existing road and replace it with a 3,000-foot concrete roadway with new curb and gutter. The existing water main will be abandoned, and 3,000 feet of new water main will be installed.
The sidewalks and crosswalks along Main Street will also be replaced. The first 40 inches extending inward from the curb will consist of brick pavers for the entire length of the street. The rest of the sidewalk will be concrete. Other streetscape features include the installation of decorative stone walls and columns, new benches and trash receptacles, and many new plantings.
